Beetles are one of the most common and inert appearing insects. They may have powerful mandibles but never bite people (unless provoked), don’t spread diseases, and they can’t see very well so they don’t move fast. All that to say they’re not necessarily a scary insect. But that doesn’t mean you want them around the house right?
The most common beetles we see are carpet beetles and wood-boring beetles. For the most part, the only damage carpet beetles inflict is on plants and vegetation. They’ll rapidly devour your garden and they reproduce quickly which leads to an infestation that can clear a crop. However, like the name eludes to, they’re attracted to carpet and fibers. They can chew through clothing and fabrics left in unattended areas of your home.
Wood-boring beetles, on the other hand, get their name from their habit of boring into wood. They’ve been known to chew through plaster and even soft metals to get access to the underlying wood below. These beetles can inflict serious damage to the structure of your home as well as wood items within your home.
