While Modesto isn’t exactly a vacation destination, there are plenty of fun things to do around here. Below, we cover 10 of the best activities to do while you’re here…

Modesto Farmers Market

The farmers market is a great place to visit. There’s tons of fresh, seasonal produce grown right here in the central valley. Many of the products are organic, there’s food booths, and plenty of samples as you’re walking around. Some of our favorite booths include:

  • The almond booth – lots of flavored almonds to sample.
  • The pet treats booth – excellent, high-quality pet treats.
  • The hummus booth – if you’re a fan of hummus, they have some that you’ve never seen before that are out of this world.

The State Theatre

The State Theatre is a great experience for throwback movies and artsy films that aren’t in the regular theatres. During certain times of the year they play classics like “Death Becomes Her”, “Hocus Pocus”, and “Downton Abbey”. They also play series of movies which are generally classics. It’s a cool experience if you’ve never been.

Gallo Center For The Arts

The Center For The Arts is THE place for events in Modesto. From your favorite famous comedians to famous Christian rock bands and everything in between. If you’re just visiting here for a short time, its worth checking out their events schedule to see what’s happening.

McHenry Mansion

If you’re a fan of history, the McHenry Mansion was completed in 1883 and built in a Victorian Italianate style that was all the rage back then. It’s one of the few remaining historical buildings in Modesto and worth a visit.

Yosemite National Park

There’s little doubt you’ve heard of Yosemite. It’s an amazing place and just a few hours from here. Some of our favorite spots within the park include the Cathedral Lakes, Bridalveil Falls, and Glacier Point. If you’re visiting the area from out of town, don’t miss the opportunity to hike in Yosemite.

Knights Ferry

Knights Ferry is like a mini-Yosemite. It’s smaller and only about an hour away which makes it ideal for a day trip. The Stanislaus River runs through the center of the park with several areas for swimming. The river stays cool year-round making it perfect for those hot summer days. There’s also plenty of trails to hike along and its a great place to bring your pets.

Vintage Fair Mall

In the mood for some shopping? Check out the Vintage Fair Mall. There’s plenty of stores including Aldo, Apple, Coach, and many more. It’s a great mall where everyone in the family can find something. And after your long day of shopping, you can dine at BJ’s Brewhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings, or one of the many food court restaurants.

Walk Downtown

Downtown Modesto is a delightful area to take a walk. There’s food, drinks, and a quaint movie theatre. It’s perfect for a low cost, easy-going day or night activity.

Boomers

Need something to do with the kids? Boomers is a fun little getaway with mini-golf, go-carts, water bumper-cars, and plenty of arcade games.
